When I think of winter holidays, my mind (heart), speed jumps with thoughts of snow-covered mountains. As much as I love urban holidays, sightseeing in below zero temperatures is not fun. On the other hand, a combination of winter sports, delicious mulled wine, and good-heart warming company is my ultimate definition of winter holidays.
I have 3 locations to suggest to you today. Places I have visited in the past and know first-hand how beautiful and mesmerizing they look in winter.
South Tyrol, Italy. Last Autumn, read (here) we drove to Italy from Bavaria with a friend of us and it’s one of the best holidays we have ever had. Breathtaking mountain views, delicious food, and kind people. As a matter of fact, we planned to spend our New Years Eve in Italy but we weren’t as lucky with finding accommodation.
Canton of Lucerne and Graubünden, Switzerland. You might remember our spring trip from St’ Moritz (here) and (here) and how much I loved Switzerland. However the past weekend we visited our friends in Zürich and managed to shortly visited Weggis, a resort in the canton of Lucerne and see snow for the first time this winter. Switzerland is such a beautiful country, and I have a feeling I will be visiting very often in the future. After all is only 4 hours drive from Frankfurt. We didn’t take many pictures for our trip, as the goal of our trip had been to see and catch-up with our friends.
Innsbruck, Austria. We visited this charming city in the Austrian Alps a few years back, before I started my blog. I carry good memories from this trip, apart from our super weird Airbnb host. Innsbruck is full of charming cafes, restaurants and only a short trip from the mountains. My most cherished memory from this trip has been the cup of mulled wine shared with M, after a long hike.
