• Fun facts about human evolution

    2016-10-1508.37.551-01.jpg

If you follow me on Instagram, last week I wrote a little bit about the reason why I started the blog and what I do for a living. I am convinced you like me have universal interests and cannot or will not believe, when you meet with friends you  dissertate one single topic.

I’ve been wanting for months now to serve some tea time on the blog. When YOU and I are going to spend time on a topic of my choice. Today’s subject was inspired by the DINOLOVE collection of Malaika Raiss and it going to be about fun evolutionary facts of Homo Sapiens. Don’t be scared to continue reading, I do not plan to bore you with scientific details.

Fun fact 1. Women are colder than men

There a scientific explanation why women are colder than men, such as different ration of fat and muscles, poor metabolic rates and hormones changes during menstruates. A different evolutionary theory argues that this serves better the reproduction of species as it leads men and women in proximity.

Fun fact 2. The bigger brain made us smarter

The reason why human brain developed so fast in size and complexity has been finally evoked to a protein in our brains called DUF1220 which define its size. After humans with 270 copies in our genome, comes the chimpanzee with  125 and gorilla with 99. Although after following American politics I have my doubts about that.

Fun fact 3. Why we get goosebumps

When we’re cold or stressed the spinal cord contracts the tiny muscles attached to each hair and pulls the hair up. When it’s cold this serves to preserve the heat but it can be also respond to fear or anger. It is believed goosebumps served our ancenstors to detect danger-during goosebumps adrenaline is released in the body and consequently the animals appeared much larger than in reality.

Fun fact 4. Why we yawn

Yawning is one of the few human functions where the scientists have to explaination. It is believed to serve as cool down mechanism for the brain as the opening of the jaw pumps more blood to the brain. Around 50% of the people who observe yawn will yawn in response. It is believed that yawning served Homo Sapience as a biological clock for better synchronisation in social groups-to make them go to sleep at the same time.

Fun fact 5. Humans are domestic animals

In other words we can’t live alone as a consequnce we have highly developed mentalizing assets and tolerance. Humans have develoved very early social skills as natural selection favored increased in-group prosociality over aggression.

I hope my darling you enjoyed the first cup of tea served in TbyMallano.

    Have a lovely Sunday!
