Something has happened to me this winter, I feel at ease with cold temperatures and I am enjoying the cold weather. M talks often about winter in Russia, the -30°C they often experience in winter and I always wonder how do people carry on with life in such circumstances. They actually have lots of fun he says, I know he is trying to coax me to visit Russia in winter, without success this far. I did join him for a winter picnic the other day, in a forest close to our home, it was actually fun. I had never heard that people actually have winter picnic but M ofter had as a kid while fishing with his dad in a frozen lake.
Here are our tips for an enjoyable winter picnic:
- Dress warmly; as the Russian say there isn’t such a thing as feeling cold, only poorly dressed.
- Choose a sunny day; We had -14,5°C that day, as our sitting arrangements faced the sun it felt wonderful to have the skin exposed to the warm sun rays.
- Pack good food; we had my latest tea obsession the Yogi Himalaya, Panettone, fruits and some fatty (delicious) smalls bites with us. I was basically there for the food.
- Keep it short; We were there for about 1,5h with lots of walking and playing with our new friend Amy. M’s hands were freezing from capturing these pictures and I couldn’t feel my face towards the end. Funnily enough, my lashes were frozen as well, I looked like a panda after we entered the car. Add to the list of tips a waterproof mascara, please.

I’m impressed. You have picnic chairs, a tea tray and wicker basket.
Great photos of you having fun, T. Looks like you are in your second childhood. But that’s a long way off. Think you are enjoying the first one still.
I love reading and looking at pictures of the cold regions. Antarctica, Russia and the early explorers. But, these days from a cosy room.
Keep warm, Jo x

Aaw what a lovely idea! Wow -14,5 °C sounds super cold – but with the right outfit everything is possible right. 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing this cool inspiration. The next sunny winter day is coming for sure!
